OUR FOUNDER

| Founder and Director, Parvathi Nath Saraswati (Kirin Mishra), was born into a lineage of yogis from India. She came to the United States as a young girl, bringing with her the lineage and tradition of the Saraswati River Yoga Masters - a tradition that merged in the mountains of Kashmir with the great and original teachings of the yoginis and later traveled North into China and Tibet as Chan and Dzogchen, and East and South as Shakti Sadhana. From a very early age Parvathi was schooled in Vedic and Tantric principles and practiced meditation and pranayama. Parvathi's direct teachers were in the unbroken lineage of Kashmirian yoginis and Shree Vidya, the highest yogic science. Her training in asana is attributed to personal experience and teachings from masters in both India and America. |
The Saraswati River Yoga Method
Parvathi has trained many of the teachers at River Yoga in the Saraswati River Yoga (SRY) method of teaching - sharing the ancient wisdom of the yogis. The hallmark of this teaching style is the masterful attention to form and skillful assists that are conveyed through a larger framework of service to Truth. Through this path one comes to see that yoga is ultimately about living skillfully with an open heart and a clear mind - feeling the awe and radiance innate to human kind.
River Yoga is unique in that it continues the tradition of an unbroken 7,000-year lineage of yoga masters as well as being a fully accredited Yoga Alliance school and center. Our professionally trained teachers continually dedicate themselves to the study, practice, and teaching of yoga.
The SRY Method is an integration of the many paths of yoga and wisdom traditions including: Hatha, Jnana and Bhakti yogas, as well as Taoism, Kashmir Shaivism, Shakti Sadhana and Dzogchen. This integration is what distinguished the greatest yogis of the Saraswati River tradition and is what Parvathi teaches around the world… and the teachers of River Yoga offer today at the center.
